Friends That Travel and Friends That Game (the "Apps") are made by Travel App PMJS LLC, doing business as Friends That ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what information the Apps collect, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have. It applies to the Apps on iPhone, iPad and Android.
Account information. You sign in with Apple or with Google. The sign-in service gives us a stable account identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address. If you use Sign in with Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive a private relay address instead of your real one. We store this in Google Firebase to identify your account.
Information you enter. The Apps are built for small groups. What you enter — such as trip details, itinerary items, places, expenses and their split, game types, game sessions, player names and scores — is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) and shared in real time with the other members of that trip or game. Don't enter anything you wouldn't want them to see.
Photos and files (Friends That Travel). Receipts, photos and PDF files you attach are uploaded to Firebase Storage and can be seen by members of that trip.
Location and place searches (Friends That Travel). When you use the map, search for a place or view weather, the place names you type or the coordinates of places on your trip are sent to the services listed under Third-party services to find places, show maps, and get weather and time-zone information. If you allow location access, the app uses your current location only while you're using it: to show places near you first when you search, to fill in where you are when you tap "Use my current location", and to show you on the map. For the first two, your current coordinates are sent to the place-search service; they're saved only as the location of a place you choose to save. We do not store your location history.
Feedback. In Friends That Game, Profile → Send Feedback opens an email to support@friendsthat.app; we receive your email address, your message and the app and phone version the email includes, and use them only to answer you and improve the Apps. In Friends That Travel, feedback you send from the app is stored in Firebase and may be visible to other users of its feedback list.
Technical data. Like most online services, Firebase and the other services below receive technical information needed to work — such as your IP address, device type, operating system and app version — and keep it in their logs.
Advertising data (Friends That Game). Friends That Game shows ads from Google AdMob. To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, Google's ad software in the app collects information such as your device's advertising identifier (on iPhone, only if you allow tracking), IP address and the approximate location derived from it, device and app information, and how you interact with ads. Google does not receive the games, scores or names you enter.
We do not sell the information you enter in the Apps and never use it for advertising. Under some US state privacy laws, letting an ad network use device information for personalized ads can count as "selling" or "sharing" personal information; you can opt out of that as described under Your choices.
Google Firebase (both Apps) — sign-in, database, file storage. Operated by Google LLC; see Firebase privacy.
Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In (both Apps) — see Apple's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy.
Google AdMob (Friends That Game) — ads and the consent messages shown in the app. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Google may work with other advertising partners as described there.
Google Maps (Friends That Travel) — maps. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
Photon by komoot (Friends That Travel) — place search and place names, using OpenStreetMap data. Receives the text you search for and coordinates of places; see komoot's privacy policy.
Open-Meteo (Friends That Travel) — weather forecasts. Receives the coordinates of places on your trip.
timeapi.io (Friends That Travel) — time zones for places on your trip. Receives the coordinates of those places.
Frankfurter and Currency API (Friends That Travel) — exchange rates. Receive only the currencies and dates requested, not your expenses.
None of the Travel services above receive your name, email or account.
The members of a trip or game see what is entered in it. The service providers above process information on our behalf or as described. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others. We do not otherwise share your information.
Information is stored by Google Firebase, mainly in the United States. If you use the Apps from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
We keep your information while your account exists. Trips and games stay available to their other members. When you delete your account, we delete your account and the information only you can see; information you added to a shared trip or game (for example an expense or a score) may remain for the other members, without your account linked to it.
Delete your account. In Friends That Game or Friends That Travel, go to Profile → Delete Account; the app asks you to confirm and then deletes your account straight away. In Friends That Travel, trips you share with other people stay available to them: shared expenses and who owes whom are kept so the trip still settles up, and you are shown only by name as a former member. If you can no longer open the app, email privacy@friendsthat.app from the address on your account and we will delete it. Step-by-step instructions are on our Delete Your Account page. If you use Sign in with Apple, you can also stop using it with the Apps in your Apple ID settings (Settings → [your name] → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple).
Ad choices (Friends That Game).
Your rights. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how it is used, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. Email us to use any of these rights; we won't treat you differently for doing so.
The Apps are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above.
